Media Issues:"I sense a general hostility toward Christianity among the literary and media establishments in our country. There is a tendency to keep Christian thinking out of the mainstream, to marginalize it and make it look like a product of 'fringe' groups." (p. 96. Book Burning. Cal Thomas. 1983.) "In the major institutions of education, government, science, and the arts, we are witnessing the imposition of a post-Christian view of life. It now dominates in motion pictures, television, and every other form of entertainment." (p. 57. Character & Destiny. Ibid.) "If the media blitz against Christians continues, a further step will be a rising rage of hatred against all Christians who believe, practice, and seek to share their faith. This will be followed by more severe social ostracism , then by more and more restrictive laws against our religious liberties."" (p. 131. Free Speech or Propaganda? Marlin Maddoux. 1990.) "(Concerning the press), the hatred for all such evangelical groups is not because of their real or fancied blunders but because they have reintroduced biblical morality into politics." (Rousas John Rushdoony, Chalcedon Report . Dec. 1981.) "The cases and instances of religious censorship are generally unreported in the secular media and receive only sporadic attention in the religious media." (p. 22. Whitehead. Ibid.) "As the courts keep pushing religion out of sight, the press either ignores it or treats it as some sort of emotional affliction. It is hardly any wonder that religion slowly loses its grip on the popular mind." (pp. 291-292. Bork. Ibid.) "By and large, reporters and editors are devoutly secular and deeply distrustful of those who act on faith."" (p. 33. Feder. Ibid.) "Anti-Christian Bigotry The mass media in our nation relentlessly attack anything that even remotely champions morality or Judeo-Christian values." (Paul McGuire. Who Will Rule the Future? p. 104) "Explicitly Christian themes are regularly excluded from news articles." (Gary DeMar. America's Christian History: The Untold Story. 1996. p. 24) "Religion's crucial role in the lives of many people is rejected out of hand by the political community, especially the press." (Fred Barnes. The New Republic.) "The secular press has already pegged orthodox Christians as bigots living on the lunatic fringe." (Spirit Wars. Peter Jones. p. 48) "Why is it acceptable in the media to be an anti-Christian bigot?" (Joseph Farah. Anti-Christian Bigotry in Hollywood. p. 10) "Christianity is a religion for losers." (Ted Turner, Media magnate in the Dallas Morning News) "When you see that (Christian) fish symbol on the bumper sticker of the car in front of you, know that that is the enemy." (The late musician, Frank Zappa. From a pro-abortion rally in Los Angeles.) "The media has a drive to shove the Church and its message into the cultural backwaters." (p. 91. Gerald Wisz. Caveat: Where Do We Go From Here? Legacy Communications. Franklin, TN. 1993.) "Religious radio and television broadcasters are seven times more likely than their secular counterparts to be audited by the Internal Revenue Service. (Bruce Bates. Jan. 31, 1998. World magazine.) "There is an attitude in the media that is dishonestly reinforcing negative stereotypes about Christians." (David Mains. The Rise of the Religion of Antichristism. p. 17) "The mainstream press routinely deprecates 'religion' by misstating beliefs." (Robert H. Knight. The Age of Consent. p. 16) "The one thing the media abhors almost without exception is anyone who takes a firm stand on any issue out of religious principle, unless their stand happens to coincide with their expressed views." (Franky Schaeffer. A Time for Anger.) |
